HENDERSON HOSTS TOUR DE CURE 2009

Annual cycling fundraiser benefits the American Diabetes Association
The City of Henderson will host the Tour de Cure 2009, a premier cycling fundraiser benefiting the American Diabetes Association, on Saturday, April 4 with races beginning at 7 a.m., 8 a.m. and 9 a.m. Start/finish line will be located at the Henderson Events Plaza, 200 S. Water Street in the Water Street District. Spectator admission is free.

The Tour de Cure 2009 celebrates its third anniversary in Henderson. The event features 100K, 50K and 25K routes for all riders, from the novice to experienced cyclist, through the beautiful scenery of Henderson, Lake Las Vegas, Boulder City and Lake Mead National Recreation Area. The rides will culminate at the Henderson Events Plaza with a celebration featuring lunch, entertainment, awards and prizes for the participants, friends and family.

New elements have been added to enhance the experience for riders including DeTour training clinics and the Point Series Competition. DeTours will be held eight weeks, six weeks, four weeks and two weeks prior to the Tour de Cure 2009. Each clinic will include presentations on safety, nutrition, conditioning and a group ride. Additionally, participants can earn points in the Point Series Competition through fundraising efforts, team building, DeTour training clinic participation and visiting sponsors for a chance to win two grand prizes of weekend adventure escapes.

Monies raised from Tour de Cure 2009 support diabetes research, advocacy and education. Last year, 300 cyclists participated in the event earning $94,000 for the American Diabetes Association.
